About Saint Vincents kids playing
On Thursday, September 26, 2019 more than 80 guests came together as Saint Vincent’s Services reveal its rebrand to friends, family, business/community partners, and colleagues during a ribbon cutting celebration. The rebrand is to highlight Saint Vincent’s Services, Inc. successes and growth as a child-focused, family-centered, trauma-informed service provider. Saint Vincent’s was established in 1885 to be a place of positive change for children, adolescents and their families and to give them the insight and tools they need to build healthy relationships. John T. Weldon, Executive Director / CEO, addressed the audience  and explained “The rebranding was needed to help our organization better portray the values that we uphold and allow the local community to better understand the programs and services we currently provide. We wanted to show our past, current, and future clients the different programs and services we have implemented as well as the open access to those services, which is different and now open to children and families.” In addition to comments and blessings from Bishop da Cunha, Cathy Ann Viveiros, the Fall River City Administrator presented Saint Vincent’s Services with a special citation and offered her thanks and appreciation to our staff for their continued dedication and support of the children and families we serve. After the ribbon cutting guests were invited into the Saint Vincent's chapel to enjoy refreshments, prepared by our Food Service Team and tours of the campus were extended to those interested.

Saint Vincent's Home has recently introduced Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC), an evidence based initiative developed by Justice Resource Institute (JRI) in all of our residential and congregate care levels of care.   [Relate only to trauma expertise, training experience, etc.] Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) is a framework for intervention with youth and families who have experienced multiple and/or prolonged traumatic stress. Most of our clients and families have been effected by trauma in their lives and Saint Vincent’s specializes in the treatment of trauma of various types. ARC identifies three core domains that are frequently impacted among traumatized youth, and which are relevant to future resiliency. Saint Vincent’s was introduced to the ARC Framework beginning in 2013 through participation  in the Massachusetts Child Trauma Project.  ARC was considered one of three evidenced-based practices in the treatment of trauma.  As a result of initiatives with the MCTP and the Child Advocacy Center of Bristol County, located in Fall River, Saint Vincent’s was able to train the clinicians providing services within our outpatient Mental Health Clinic n ARC.  Expanding this initiative will allow for all of our program areas and levels of care to have the same foundation, language, and tools for our ongoing work with youth and families who are dealing with trauma in their lives. Outcomes research suggests that ARC leads to reduction in child post-traumatic stress symptoms and general mental health symptoms, as well as increased adaptive and social skills.

Saint Vincent’s has achieved national accreditation through the New York-based Council on Accreditation (COA). Saint Vincent’s provides residential direct care, in-home and community-based services, outpatient behavioral health, residential and group living support, and many forms of support and stabilization for families.  It took Saint Vincent’s 18 months to achieve accreditation. Organizations pursue accreditation to demonstrate the implementation of best practice standards in the field of human services. COA evaluated all aspects of Saint Vincent’s programs, services, management, and administration. COA accreditation is an objective, independent, and reliable validation of an agency’s performance. The COA accreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of an organization’s administration, management, and service delivery functions against international standards of best practice. The standards driving accreditation ensure that services are well-coordinated, culturally competent, evidence-based, outcomes-oriented, and provided by a skilled and supported workforce. COA accreditation demonstrates accountability in the management of resources, sets standardized best practice thresholds for service and administration, and increases organizational capacity and accountability by creating a framework for ongoing quality improvement. To achieve COA accreditation, Saint Vincent’s first provided written evidence of compliance with the COA standards.  Thereafter, a group of specially trained volunteer Peer Reviewers confirmed adherence to these standards during a series of on-site interviews with trustees, staff and clients. Based on their findings, COA’s volunteer-based Accreditation Commission voted that Saint Vincent’s had successfully met the criteria for accreditation. An endorsement of COA and the value of its accreditation

SMART is now listed in the National registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices/SAMSHA as a promising practice in the treatment of complex trauma.  The primary focus of SMART is to engage youth in sensory motor activities in order to assist children in building the capacity for arousal regulation which is necessary for trauma processing and daily living skills.   In preparation for this new treatment, Saint Vincent’s has developed a SMART room which will be dedicated to this new treatment practice.
